[VIDEO] Attorney General Githu Muigai resigns, Uhuru nominates Justice Paul Kihara

Attorney General Githu Muigai has resigned.

He handed over his resignation letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday.

“I have received with regret the resignation of Attorney General Githu Muigai.”

“I thank him for his service for the last six and a half years. I wish Professor Muigai all the very best in the next phase of his professional career,” Uhuru said via twitter.

Uhuru further nominated Judge Paul Kihara Kariuki as his replacement.

The reason for Githu’s resignations is yet to be established.

Githu took over from Amos Wako in August 2011 following the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution that required him to exit office.

Wako who is the Busia Senator, had served for two decades as the country’s top legal adviser.

Githu holds a bachelor’s degree in Law degree from the University of Nairobi, a master’s degree in International Law from Columbia University School of Law.
